Editorial policy
How Food Replay researches, writes, reviews and updates guides on children's nutrition, screen time and healthy eating.
Our mission
Food Replay guides are written for parents who want practical, evidence-informed advice on raising children with a healthy relationship with food. We do not promote diets, calorie counting or restriction for children. Our editorial North Star is the same as our app's: Never shame. Always invite.
Who writes and reviews our content
Articles are written by the Food Replay editorial team — a group of product designers, parents and researchers with backgrounds in child development, UX and nutrition communication. Before publication, each guide is reviewed against current guidance from:
- The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
- NHS UK dietary guidelines for children
- The Ellyn Satter Division of Responsibility in Feeding model
- Peer-reviewed research published in journals including Appetite, Pediatrics and JAMA Pediatrics
We note where content reflects expert consensus and where evidence is emerging or mixed.
What we cover — and what we don't
Our guides cover practical, parent-facing topics: how to reduce mealtime conflict, how to think about screen time, how games can motivate healthy behaviour, and how to talk about food without creating shame. We do not provide medical diagnoses, clinical dietary plans, or advice for children with eating disorders or medically supervised nutrition needs. For those, please consult a registered dietitian or your child's paediatrician.
How we handle statistics and research
We cite primary sources — published studies, clinical guidelines, or government health authorities — wherever we make statistical or scientific claims. We link to DOI-indexed papers where possible. Where research is contested or ongoing, we say so explicitly.
Publication and update schedule
All guides display a publication date and a "last reviewed" date. We review nutrition and screen-time content every six months to reflect updated research or changing guidance. If guidance changes materially between reviews, we update immediately and note the change at the top of the article.
Corrections policy
If you identify a factual error in any guide, please email [email protected]. We will investigate within five working days and, where appropriate, correct the article with a visible correction notice.
Conflicts of interest
Food Replay is funded through app subscriptions. We do not accept sponsored content, affiliate fees, or advertising on our guides. We do not have financial relationships with food brands, supplement companies or diet programmes. Our guides never recommend specific commercial products except Food Replay itself.
